To Snip Or Not To Snip

If you have just had a baby boy one of the things you may not be thinking about is whether or not to get him circumcised. Up until the 1970's almost every boy was circumcised. In the 70's people began to think that it was not only unnecessary but a tad barbaric and so parents often did not get their little boy circumcised. Now, according to Brian Morris, professor of medical sciences at the University of Sydney, circumcision can help prevent a number of diseases.

There is evidence that circumcising a baby will reduce the risk of urinary tract infections in infants which can lead to permanent kidney damage. The health benefits do not stop there, circumcision may reduce the risk of transmitting the papillomavirus (HPV) which causes cancer of the uterus in women.

Three random, controlled studies in Africa showed that circumcision reduces the risk of acquiring HIV by approximately 60%. Circumcision can also reduce the transference of bacterial infections such as Herpes and Chlamydia which causes infertility in women.

It would seem that circumcision is more than just a small snip done for hygiene purposes, circumcision can have far reaching health benefits so if you are wondering whether to snip or not to snip the little fellow perhaps you should read the article on this subject in the The Australian
before making your final decision.
